Opening Editorial
APRIL . . . . traditionally a month of showers . . . . will shower you with welcome profits if you follow the lead of this month's all-star contributing staff.
Topping the list is Charles Budas whose eminently practical and adaptable coiffure won the Gold Trophy at Chicago's Midwest Show. We have the happy privilege to bring you not only the winning style itself, but an exclusive illustrated description of Mr. Budas's technique in dressing it. Other prize winners" styles are pictured, too, as well as many of the outstanding presentations from the major Spring shows and coiffure revues the country over.
For your Mother's Day promotion there is a whole collection of special designs for the fashion-conscious matron by Penny Roloff, Joseph Nufer, Miss Almeda, Jack Kreisberg and Larry Germain. And for the little girl who wants to have her hair fixed when Mother does, Claudia Knorr styled the cunning hairdo with lots of curls which sparkles on our cover.
We had Mother's Day gift permanent waves in mind when we asked J. Schaeffer to point out some of the most important factors contributing to successful perms for white hair. A large percentage of Mr. Schaeffer's patrons in his famous Fifth Avenue salon have white hair and Mr. Schaeffer is an expert in keeping it lovely.
In designing a new coiffure for a patron's new Spring bonnet, have you been stumped by a stubborn cowlick? Fred the Hairstylist has made a special study of this problem which is well worth your attention.
The things that go before the permanent wave have much to do with its success. That is why Paul Moody stresses the importance of perfect tapering and shaping as a preliminary to every permanent, and why David Marinell emphasizes pre- permanent reconditioning treatments for neglected hair. If you think a retail department is not worthwhile, read Joseph Smalldone's account of the methods that have made retail selling produce one-sixth of his total volume! Don't let us hear you say "It can't be done!"
